BREAKING🚨 U.S. & Ukraine Sign Minerals Agreement

According to Bloomberg, the United States and Ukraine have signed a minerals deal. This agreement will allow the United States to gain access to Ukraine’s rare earth minerals—partly as compensation for the support the U.S. has provided Ukraine in the past, and also as a step toward creating a framework for U.S. protection of Ukraine in the future to help deter further Russian aggression.

President Zelensky appears concerned that a cease-fire or broader peace deal will not be sustainable without the backing of the United States or NATO. While the U.S. is not willing to grant Ukraine NATO membership or offer full security guarantees, the minerals deal is seen by both Trump and the U.S. as a way to make Ukraine strategically important to American interests—thereby incentivizing Russia to think twice before launching another invasion.

Our only concern, at the Right-Wing Populist, is that we would have preferred for this deal to be signed after a larger peace agreement was reached. Putting the deal in place now does create some incentive for the U.S. to protect Ukraine, but it also risks pulling us closer to a direct confrontation with Russia—something we should strive to avoid.

Hopefully, this minerals deal accelerates the path toward peace, rather than prolonging the conflict.
