Biden Ran for Re-Election Expecting Trump to be Sent to Jail

In a recent interview with NPR, Jake Tapper while promoting his new book, revealed that Joe Biden spent most of 2023 expecting Donald Trump to be sent to jail.

When his co-author, Alex Thompson, discussed how Biden and his team felt that he needed to run because he was the only person who had defeated Trump, Tapper added that Biden believed Trump would be imprisoned—perhaps bolstering Biden’s chances, even if he was a weak candidate.

Tapper:

"President Biden and Mike Donilon spent most of 2023 convinced Donald Trump would go to jail."

This is revealing for two reasons:

1. It confirms what many Trump supporters suspected: that Biden hoped to benefit from the anti-Trump lawfare to improve his chances in 2024.

2. It’s ironic how that lawfare ultimately backfired. Many Democrats—not just Biden—likely believed that Trump’s legal troubles would cripple his campaign, giving them a false sense of confidence in Biden’s ability to win.

It also should be noted that there were reports that Biden privately would criticize his attorney general for not trying to prosecute Trump earlier.

Voters thankfully rejected the lawfare in the most recent presidential election, and Donald Trump was able to win despite all the hurdles thrown in his path.
